Launch of Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council Challenge Campaign

Fall 2016 • Washington, DC

The Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council will launch a high-profile campaign in 2016 that challenges institutional purchasers to publicly join together in committing to a key set of actions that will accelerate market transformation in impact areas and purchasing areas where there is the greatest opportunity to make a positive difference. This will be an initiative to harness the collective power of its members, and take organizational development beyond an earlier stage of focus on individual member practices.

By mid 2015 SPLC had over 130 members with over $200 billion in spending, a group that includes Fortune 500 companies, major universities, and leading city, state and local governments. Their 2015 guidebook to sustainable purchasing, Guidance for Leadership in Sustainable Purchasing v.1.0, has been downloaded by over 1,000 purchasing professionals worldwide.

Blackstone Ranch Institute provided an initial grant to help launch the campaign, part of which they will use as a challenge to secure other funding.
