Biomimicry 3.8 Institute

Missoula, Montana

The Biomimicry Institute’s mission is to nurture and grow a global community of people who are learning from, emulating, and conserving life’s genius to create a healthier, more sustainable planet.

Biomimicry (bios meaning life; mimesis meaning to imitate) is the practice of developing sustainable technologies inspired by ideas from Nature. The core idea is that nature, imaginative by necessity, has already solved many of the problems we are grappling with. Energy efficient buildings inspired by passive cooling in termite mounds and non-toxic fabric finishes inspired by water repellant lotus plants are examples of biomimicry changing our world today.
