Accelerating the Growth of Integrative Medicine

September 23, 2019 • Tucscon, Arizona

Dr. Andrew Weil, a pioneer of integrative medicine, recently offered a substantial philanthropic gift to the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. The center (now the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona) is convening a strategy group of visionaries in medicine and potential partners in business and academia. Their goal is to leverage the gift to significantly advance the field of integrative medicine and inspire wider societal adoption.

Integrative medicine is holistic by design, and combines conventional western medical practice with a diversity of complementary and alternative therapies.

The strategic gathering will pursue several objectives, including ways to provide wide access to integrative medicine clinical practice, demonstrate the cost effectiveness of integrative medicine to encourage more support from the insurance industry, integrate technology and artificial intelligence into healthcare practice, and scale training to reach all allied health care professionals.

Blackstone Ranch Institute is providing a grant to cover the cost of the gathering. In previous years, BRI provided grant support for the development of an environmental medicine component of the center’s educational program for medical students.
